A zircon is a natural mineral and derives its name from its material, zircon silicate, a crystal that shares many similar physical characteristics with diamonds, like hardness and brilliance, and thus is considered semi-precious.
It is among the most ancient and rarest gemstones found on Earth.
It’s not the same gem as the cubic zirconia, often used in jewelry, which is actually an artificial stone that has truly no value. The cubic zirconia has first been created in the 1800s, and has always been produced in a lab.
